Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation “LEGENDS GAME” held on April 9th, A HUGH SUCCESS!!

On Saturday April 9th, the First Long Island Legends Game was held between St. Joseph’s College and SUNY Farmingdale. The game was a tribute to four legends of Long Island Lacrosse that unfortunately left us too soon. The game was played as a tribute to Tom Postel, Jack Kaley, Mike Thearle and Ralph Pepe. Every player that participated in the game wore a special throwback jersey with one of the legends names on the back. The home team wore blue and white and the visitors wore green and yellow and it was amazing to see Postel going to the cage covered by Postel.

Prior to the game there was a fitting tribute to the families of each of the legends and they were presented with flowers and a printed copy of their legendary family members’ jersey on it. There were tears shed but they were tears of appreciation and joy knowing that the time their loved ones devoted to the game was appreciated and memorialized. The game was a fundraiser for the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation with over $12,000 being raised to support LIMLF and its mission to promote and grow the game of lacrosse in the Long Island/New York Metropolitan area.

The game was a hard fought contest tied at 5 at halftime but Farmingdale emerged victorious with a 12-7 win and earned the right to hoist the Long Island Legends Game Cup! We look forward to seeing them defend the cup in 2023!

Very, very special thanks to Gavin, Eric, Joe, Alden, Jack, Barry and everyone who contributed to this great event !!

We need your help!
The Long Island Metro Lacrosse Foundation (LIMLF) is a not-for-profit organization comprised of all volunteer members. We work throughout Long Island and the New York Metro area to improve and promote the sport of Lacrosse.

As you can imagine, many of our events in the past 24 months have been postponed and/or cancelled. We would be very grateful for any assistance you may extend to us to support our continuing mission of improving the sport of lacrosse in the region.

We are happy to say we are participating in “The Legends Game” where the Farmingdale State University Men’s Lacrosse Team will be visiting the St. Joseph’s Men’s Lacrosse Team on April 9, 2022 @ 12:00 PM. The game will be a testament to honoring the lives of Tom Postel, Jack Kaley, Mike Thearle and Ralph Pepe.
